Production & Commodities

This is the statutory apparatus around producing and selling an Idaho agricultural product: the commodity commissions and their assessments, brand inspection, testing and grading standards, certificates for export, and direct-to-consumer sales.

It also covers the defensive side. The Right to Farm Act limits nuisance complaints against established operations, and pest, weed, and invasive species law decides who abates what and at whose cost.

Labeling drew measures in both recent sessions. Cell-cultivated and alternative animal proteins, and industrial hemp products intended for human consumption, both moved from failed bills to enacted law across two sessions.

The legislative record

More than half of these measures were enacted, the highest enactment rate of any area here. Across the 2019 through 2026 sessions the Legislature took up 83 measures in this area, of which 47 were enacted or adopted. Every entry links to the Legislature's own page for that measure.
